Using plants to protect you from mosquitos and other pests like horse files is our goal. This is the same plant we use in the Texas Mosquito Deathbog to eat all of the mosquito larva.
If you have a pond in your yard and have issues with mosquitos but wish you could use plants to eat them, this is your chance.
Best of all, it is a Texas native! in spring it will put up small clusters of yellow flowers above the water
This plant prefers acidic PH of around6-7 and does best in blackwater ponds, though it can do well in other ponds.
The single biggest reason you will succeed or fail with this plant is if the pond has an algae problem. Hair algae with smother the Utircularia and kill it.
This plant has evolved to operate in extremely low nutrient environments to eat microbes and mosquito larva to get its nutrients. No need for furtilizer.
